Bluehost vs Hostgator in 2015
I’ve seen a plethora of reviews looking at the pros and cons of Bluehost vs Hostgator, Hostgator vs Bluehost, etc. I decided I should write my own review since I have used both companies to host a variety of websites. Hopefully this review will help you make the final decision between the two companies.
Bluehost has been around since the 90s and has earned a solid reputation in the hosting world through years of great service. Hostgator, on the other hand, was founded in 2002 in a college dorm room, and has similarly built up a reputation through years of steady, reliable service.
In general, Hostgator and Bluehost are both great companies for hosting a small business or personal site that recieves 10,000-100,000 hits per month. Both have a reputation for great customer service, speed, etc. If you are looking to host a site that recieves medium traffic, Bluehost vs Hostgator is a great starting point. However, if you plan on getting more than 100,000 hits per month, you’ll want to invest in a cloud based system like Rackspace.
Bluehost vs Hostgator: Price
Bluehost has one universal plan that costs $4.95 per month when you sign a three year contract with them. Fortunately, this contract is not binding, meaning you can cancel at any time and get all your money back. For this reason, I highly reccomend that if you do choose Bluehost, you sign up for the 3 year plan even if you are not sure how long you will be using it. They will not hassle you at all when you ask for your money back. They’ll simply credit your account. I even experimented with starting a new account and canceling to make sure this is the case. For $4.95/month with Bluehost, you’ll be able to host unlimited domains.
Hostgator features three different plans. For $3.96/month, you can host one domain. For $6.36/month, you’ll be able to host unlimited domains. And for $10.36 per month, you’ll host unlimited domains, and get your own Toll Free number to call, free dedicated IP, and free Private SSL.
Winner: Bluehost. $4.95 per month includes all of the features of the more expensive Hostgator Plan.
Bluehost vs Hostgator: Interface and Ease of Use
Although slightly different, the control panels of both companies are extremely similar. I think it will be helpful to provide snapshots of both companies taken when I am logged in to their control panel:
Bluehost Control Panel:
As you can see, the interfaces of both sites are quite similar and make it easy to get your site up and running. In reality, though, most customers breeze through the cPanel and head right to the WordPress Dashboard, which both companies allow you to use.

Bluehost vs Hostgator: Customer Service
Over the years, I’ve had to call both companies for help via both live chat and by phone.
My CS experiences with Bluehost have been fantastic. One time, I had 3 separate customer service and technical support professionals working on my problem.
Hostgator is equally as good though, I must say. Every time a problem has arisen, I received an answer.
Indeed, the two are very similar when it comes to Customer Service. Both Hostgator and Bluehost provide 24 x 7 support via email, live chat, and telephone.
However, Bluehost recently introduced a service that puts them ahead of the curve: Free Web Presence Coaching for all clients. This means you can have a professional web design coach look over your website and give you advice about design, SEO, or whatever else you need. I remember chatting with my coach Jessica for about an hour during our most recent chat.
Customer Service Winner: Bluehost. Prompt, thorough answers to your questions and free web presence coaching.
Bluehost vs Hostgator: Final Thoughts
In the end, it will come as no surprise that I am biased toward Bluehost. Two million people already host their sites with Bluehost’s services. And while both companies are pretty solid, Bluehost brings you the most consistency, the best customer service, and most affordable price plan for a company of its size. To that end, I recommend that you head over to Bluehost.com and get started today!
